Round Phases
Airport Expansion
Airport Expansion runs in reverse player turn order. You may expand at most one airport during your turn, then pass.
Eligibility
An airport is eligible when:
- it is small or medium; and
- every gate currently open at that airport is owned.
An unused owned gate still counts as owned. A gate returned through forfeiture makes the airport ineligible again until someone acquires it.
Cost and new gates
| Current size | New size | Expansion fee | New open gates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | Medium | $10 | 3 |
| Medium | Large | $20 | 4 |
Pay the fee when you expand. You may take the first new gate for free, or leave it unowned for a future auction. Every other new gate is unowned and available for auction.
Expansion increases the size factor and maintenance cost for every gate at the airport. It also recalculates the size factor, maintenance cost, and operating profit of every route touching that airport. Taking the first new gate can create an airport monopoly.
