Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is checked only during Reset. An airline goes bankrupt when its cash is below $0 after Airline Operations, Regulatory Action, Taxes, and Capital Markets have settled.

A cash balance of exactly $0 is safe. A negative balance earlier in a round is also safe until Reset; the airline can still complete the remaining phases.

When bankruptcy is processed:

  • every route owned by the airline is removed;
  • every gate owned by the airline becomes unowned and unused;
  • airports that were full because of those gates become open again;
  • the airline leaves the active turn order and cannot take future turns;
  • remaining route competition, network factors, operating profits, maintenance totals, and airport monopolies are recalculated.

Bankruptcy occurs after the victory check. An airline that reaches 10 dividends before Reset bankruptcy remains eligible for the victory ranking even if its final cash is negative. A bankrupt airline never receives the next round's turn or wins the game.
